Compare Halong shore-excursion prices using the complete cost for your party from the correct cruise-port meeting point back to the agreed cruise-port drop-off, with the same boat type, route and essential inclusions. A low per-person boat price, a private-group quote and a room price for an overnight cruise are different units; they cannot be compared fairly until you put them on the same basis.
Halong Shore Excursion recommends checking whether an option fits your port call before comparing its price. A departure you cannot reach after disembarkation, or a return that misses all aboard, has no useful value for your day ashore.

First identify what the price buys
| Price shown | Find out before comparing |
|---|---|
| Per person on a shared boat | Whether the transfer from your ocean ship’s port, bay admission, meal and chosen activity are included. |
| Private excursion for a group | The total for your actual party size and whether both the vehicle and the sightseeing boat are private. |
| Private car or van | Whether it is transport only, one-way or round-trip, and whether a guide, waiting time and attraction costs are separate. |
| Overnight cruise room or cabin | Occupancy, number of rooms required, child arrangements, transfers and the applicable sailing date. |
| “From” price | The date, party size, room or service category that qualifies, and the total offered for your actual booking. |
A private car feeding into a shared boat is not the same product as a private boat charter. Likewise, two people sharing one room should not multiply a per-room price as though it were per person. Ask for the total payable by your whole party in one named currency.
Make sure both quotes start in the right place
The selected booking option determines what a “Halong Bay tour” price includes. One listing may offer Hanoi hotel transport or a meeting at a sightseeing harbour. Its headline price and “pickup offered” label do not establish collection from your ocean ship’s port.
| Option selected | What to compare |
|---|---|
| From Hanoi | The Hanoi pickup and return arrangement; whether a separately agreed local-joining price is available. |
| Meet at the marina | The named marina and meeting time, plus both transfers between it and your ship’s port. |
| Ocean-cruise-port collection | The exact port meeting point, included transfers and agreed port return for your ship and date. |
Read the selected option’s inclusions alongside its meeting instructions. A morning start may refer to the Hanoi pickup, with boat boarding later. Joining the boat locally does not establish transport back to your ocean ship. Save the option name, meeting time and return arrangement together.
If you will skip an included Hanoi transfer, obtain the local-joining total before paying. Do not assume unused transport will be deducted. A boat in the same port complex still requires an agreed passenger meeting point.
Halong Shore Excursion’s four-hour private bay excursion describes a road transfer to Tuan Chau; its six-hour shared bay excursion describes a meeting at Halong International Cruise Port. Compare the exact service offered for your ship and date.
Calculate the comparable total
Comparable total = quoted service + essential items excluded from that quote + any additional arrangements your party needs. Keep optional shopping and voluntary gratuities outside this comparison. Count an included item once, not again as a separate extra.
For a bay outing, the essential lines may include both road sectors, the boat, admission for the agreed route, the meal you want and your chosen activity. For an inland outing, check the return vehicle arrangement, guide, named attraction tickets and any local boat or shuttle needed for the visit. Use the ticket-inclusion guide for the detailed distinctions.
A hypothetical comparison for four adults
The numbers below are invented solely to show the calculation. They are not current Halong prices or an offer from Halong Shore Excursion. Assume, only for this example, that the two options have the same route, quality and workable port timing.
| Component | Quote A | Quote B |
|---|---|---|
| Headline price | US$60 per person | US$340 for all four guests |
| Headline total for four | US$240 | US$340 |
| Required round-trip transfer | US$80 extra per group | Included |
| Chosen activity | US$10 extra per person | Included |
| Comparable party total | US$360 | US$340 |
The lower headline becomes the higher complete total in this example. The reverse can also happen. The method is what matters: compare the same party, date, origin and required services before deciding which offer costs less.
Decide which differences are worth paying for
A lower total does not settle the choice if the products differ. Private pacing may matter when someone cannot manage all the steps, needs regular rests or wants to skip an activity. A shared departure can suit guests who are comfortable with its route and have enough time to meet its schedule. See the private-versus-group comparison for that decision.
Before paying more for a “5-star” or “6-star” day cruise, ask what the label represents. Vietnam’s official classification for tourist accommodation vessels covers boats with sleeping cabins and runs from one to five stars; “six-star” is not a grade within that scheme. For a claimed official rating, ask to see the current official rating document for the named vessel. Even where a vessel has an official rating, compare the selected day ticket’s seating or dining area, meal, activities and exclusions, and confirm that its actual return fits your ocean ship. A star label alone does not establish those booking details.
Compare the experience you will actually use. A longer itinerary is not automatically better value if you spend its extra time rushing between stops or cannot join the included activity. Similarly, a cabin upgrade does not solve an overnight cruise whose return is too late for your ocean ship.
Private timing is flexible by agreement within the ship window and available operations. It does not make every added stop, longer drive or extra hour free. Request an updated total before accepting a change.
Compare the terms alongside the total
Ask how each offer handles a missed port, late passenger release, weather cancellation and a shortened itinerary. These are different events and can have different financial outcomes. Do not assign a “free cancellation” benefit to a quote unless the written terms cover the situation you mean.
When comparing a cruise-line excursion with an independent booking, read the actual late-return support terms attached to each. Do not assume the ocean ship will wait for an independent excursion, or that every cruise line makes the same commitment. The planned return should leave a suitable margin for your specific call regardless of who sells the trip.
Also separate the deposit from the total price. Record the balance, payment currency, any stated payment fee and what happens to the price if your party size changes. A display in one currency and settlement in another need an agreed basis before payment.
Ask for a quote that can be compared
Please quote the complete total for [adults and children] from our confirmed cruise-port meeting point and back. Our ship is [name], arriving [date], with [latest port times]. We want [main experience] and need [mobility or other essential arrangements]. Please state private/shared status for the vehicle and boat, required transfers, named inclusions, exclusions, currency, cancellation terms and the planned return.
Start with the Halong Shore Excursion guide for your ship and arrival date, then compare the offers that fit. Once you choose, save the final booking confirmation. Your spending money is a separate calculation; the cash guide helps with that after the booked services are clear.
