Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum From Halong: Can You Go Inside?

Going inside Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum requires a suitable morning visiting session as well as enough time for the journey from Halong. An afternoon Hanoi arrival or a stop described only as “Ho Chi Minh complex” does not establish that you can enter the Mausoleum. Ask whether the proposed visit is inside, outside, or to another nearby site before choosing your excursion.

For visits from 4 September to 2 November 2026: the Mausoleum is closed for scheduled maintenance. The government notice announces reopening on 3 November 2026. This notice was checked on 11 October 2026; confirm the latest arrangements for your travel date, especially around a reopening or holiday.

The morning session is a separate deadline

Outside announced closures and special arrangements, the published visiting schedule provides morning sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Monday and Friday are normally closed for interior visits. Specified holidays can have exceptions.

Season Tuesday–Thursday Saturday, Sunday and holidays
1 April–31 October 7:30–10:30 am 7:30–11 am
1 November–31 March 8–11 am 8–11:30 am

These are session hours, not recommended arrival times at the queue. Security, the organised visitor route and demand still affect entry. Do not plan to reach the area at the end of the session and assume you will be admitted.

For a cruise passenger, calculate the earliest realistic arrival at the visitor entrance after clearance, disembarkation, meeting the driver and the drive to Hanoi. The time your ship docks is not the time your car leaves Halong. If the morning window cannot be reached comfortably, choose a different visit before setting off.

A later all-aboard time may make the Hanoi return easier to arrange, but it cannot extend the Mausoleum’s morning session. Likewise, a private excursion does not create access during a closure.

Inside the Mausoleum, the square and the museum are different visits

  • The Mausoleum interior: entry follows the official visiting session and visitor instructions.
  • Ba Dinh Square and an exterior view: a different experience, subject to the permitted access on the day. A photograph outside is not an interior visit.
  • Ho Chi Minh Museum: a separate museum at 19 Ngoc Ha, with its own opening hours and admission. Its permanent displays combine photographs, documents, objects and symbolic artworks to present Ho Chi Minh’s life within Vietnamese and world history. Choose this for historical interpretation, with time for a guide to explain the display’s symbolism.
  • The Presidential Palace historical site and stilt-house area: a visit centred on places where Ho Chi Minh lived and worked, including House 54, the stilt house and House 67, set among gardens and a fish pond. Choose this if the preserved living and working environment interests you; confirm the visitor route and which spaces can be viewed.
Ho Chi Minh Museum
Ho Chi Minh Museum is a separate building with its own admission and opening hours.

A closure notice for the Mausoleum should not be read as a statement that every nearby site is closed. Equally, an open museum does not mean the Mausoleum interior is open. Have the excursion confirmation identify the actual place and type of visit.

The museum’s own published hours are 8 am–noon and 2–4:30 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, with Monday and Friday closed. An afternoon museum visit may therefore be worth discussing when the Mausoleum does not fit, but it is not an automatic substitute on every day. Check special notices and leave time for the visit before closing.

Allow for the entrance, security and belongings

The Mausoleum command’s visitor regulations, published in 2018 and retained on its current website, identify 17 Ngoc Ha as the general assembly point for visitors. Confirm the active entrance and the vehicle’s permitted stopping place for your date. Giving the driver only a map pin on the front of the Mausoleum does not settle where you join the visitor route.

Dress neatly and respectfully, follow the staff’s directions and expect security screening. The regulations distinguish small personal items from luggage and specialist camera equipment that must be deposited. Ask what you should leave behind and where anything deposited is collected afterwards; include that collection in the time before meeting the car.

Photography and filming in the chamber containing Ho Chi Minh’s body are prohibited. Permission to take an exterior photograph does not carry over to the interior. Keep the visit orderly and follow the instructed route.

Is an interior visit suitable for everyone in your party?

Discuss standing, walking and any steps before including the visit, particularly if someone uses a wheelchair or cannot comfortably wait in a moving queue. An exterior stop, museum visit and Mausoleum visit can have different access requirements; none should be called step-free without a specific answer.

Families travelling with an infant or toddler should confirm age admission and the plan for any adult staying outside. If someone will sit out, agree a permitted meeting place, who stays with them and when the group reunites. Do not leave that arrangement until the party reaches security.

If the queue, heat or a changed entrance makes the visit unsuitable, tell the guide before committing to it. A shorter or different stop can preserve both the experience and the return plan.

Keep the ship return separate from the attraction schedule

Use the Hanoi port-call timing guide to agree the latest departure from your final city stop. It must allow the return drive, contingency and the remaining route through the port before all aboard. Time spent waiting for entry or collecting belongings is part of the visit, not spare return time.

If you have an overnight Halong call, compare whether a different morning could work, including that day’s reboarding deadline. Staying overnight in port does not automatically authorise sleeping in Hanoi or guarantee early shore access the next day.

Send Halong Shore Excursion your ship name and arrival date, port times and whether entering the Mausoleum is essential or an exterior or museum visit would meet your interests. The useful decision is which confirmed visit fits your call, rather than how many nearby place names appear on the itinerary.
