If one booked passenger decides to stay on the cruise ship in Halong, tell Halong Shore Excursion before the group leaves the meeting point. Confirm the new passenger count, identify who now leads the booking, update any ticket or passenger-list requirement, and recheck whether a child, senior or disabled guest has lost a required companion. A smaller group does not automatically mean the price, vehicle or itinerary changes.

Do not let the operator treat the person as missing
Send the person’s booking name and a clear statement that they have voluntarily stayed aboard and are not expected at pickup. Do not write only “we are one short.” The guide needs to distinguish an intentional no-show from a passenger still in the tender queue, using a toilet or lost inside the port.
When the remaining group reaches the meeting point, state: “Our expected shore-party count is now [number], and everyone in that count is present.”
Change the lead contact if necessary
The person staying aboard may hold the phone used for WhatsApp, the booking confirmation, payment record, passport details or knowledge of the return plan. Move the practical lead to a capable passenger who is actually going ashore.
Send Halong Shore Excursion the new lead’s name and active port-day contact. Save the guide, driver, vehicle, meeting point, all-aboard or last-tender time and correct return entrance on that person’s phone before the vehicle moves.
Check the group price rather than guessing
A private excursion price may be based on a group size, vehicle, guide, boat, room or package rather than a simple price per person. A ticket or meal may be individual while transport remains committed for the original group. Do not divide the original total by the original passenger count and declare a refund.
Use the written booking terms and ask Halong Shore Excursion to explain any price change. The Halong group-size change guide separates vehicle, ticket, guide and cancellation questions.
Remove the passenger from operational lists
A local boat, attraction or other service may have received the passenger’s name or passport information. Tell the responsible booking contact that the person will not participate. Do not substitute another passenger without confirmation.
If tickets have already been issued, ask whether they remain charged, can be changed or need no action. The answer depends on the actual service and timing. A vacant place in the vehicle does not prove that a named boat or attraction ticket transfers to someone else.
A child may have lost the responsible adult
If the person staying aboard is the child’s parent, guardian or named responsible adult, stop and confirm whether another adult can lawfully and practically take that role. That adult needs the child’s required documents, cruise card, medicine, child-seat plan and emergency information.
Do not send a child ashore because the guide is present. A guide manages the programme and does not replace family supervision or legal travel permission.
A mobility or medical plan may no longer work
The absent passenger may have been the person who pushes a wheelchair, lifts a walker, carries oxygen or medicine, interprets communication, manages diabetes supplies or recognises a health change. Halong Shore Excursion should not assume the guide or driver can replace that personal assistance.
Name the remaining capable companion for every necessary task. If the assistance gap cannot be filled, change to a suitable shorter or lower-effort plan, or keep the affected passenger aboard too.
Recheck bags and equipment
Make sure the staying passenger has not kept an item needed ashore or left their personal bag for the group to manage. Count child seats, stroller, wheelchair parts, medicine, rain protection and every large bag.
A smaller passenger count may allow a different vehicle, but do not accept a substitution until accessibility, luggage, seat belts and the return arrangement still fit. The booked vehicle may already be committed and does not have to shrink merely because one seat is empty.
If the decision happens after disembarkation
A passenger who reaches the public meeting point and then decides not to continue needs a verified return path to the ship. Do not simply point toward the terminal and let a vulnerable person walk away. Confirm the correct entrance, internal port movement, required documents and whether a companion is needed.
If the person has already started the excursion, use the one-passenger early-return plan for Halong. A separate vehicle and guide arrangement may have a cost and can change the itinerary for the remaining group.
Different tenders can hide the decision
If the party leaves the ship in different tender groups, a person who has not appeared may still intend to come ashore. Contact them through the pre-agreed channel or ship-side companion before declaring them absent. Keep the guide informed about who is aboard, in a tender or at the landing.
Follow the Halong different-tender count. A shared boat or fixed service may have a departure cutoff, so the group needs an agreed decision time.
Do not delay a shared service indefinitely
A shared vehicle or day boat also serves other passengers and follows common operating times. Once the booked party confirms that one person is staying aboard, the remaining group should complete check-in and follow the shared departure. Do not ask everyone to wait in case the person changes their mind.
If the staying passenger later decides to go ashore, contact Halong Shore Excursion. Do not promise that they can catch the group independently, enter the attraction or board a later boat without a verified plan.
Keep the ship return based on the remaining group
One fewer passenger may make loading slightly simpler, but it should not be spent on an extra stop automatically. Recalculate only after ticket, vehicle, companion and contact changes are settled. Keep the correct port entrance and protected reboarding time unchanged.
The person aboard should not be the only one monitoring ship messages. A passenger ashore must check any updated all-aboard, tender or berth instruction through the channels available for that cruise.
Message to send
Send: “For [ship] on [date], [full booking name] will stay aboard and will not join the excursion. Our shore-party count is now [number]. [New lead] at +[number/channel] will manage the booking ashore. Please confirm any change to tickets, passenger list, price, vehicle and guide plan. [Child/mobility/medical assistance] will now be handled by [named companion]. All aboard or last tender is [time].”
Halong Shore Excursion can then apply: Ship + Arrival Date → intentional non-participant → complete shore-party count → new lead contact → tickets and price → companion and equipment fit → safe remaining itinerary → protected return.
