Halong Shore Excursion

What to Save Offline Before Going Ashore in Halong

Before going ashore in Halong, save a small, usable pack: the ship’s deadline, exact pickup and return places, working contacts and the final excursion instructions. Open it without internet before leaving, then put the essential details on paper too. A bookmark needs a connection; a screenshot still needs a working phone.

Halong Shore Excursion can provide the confirmed booking details. Add the latest instructions issued aboard your ship, which may change the landing, release time or return deadline.

Halong International Cruise Port. The exact passenger route and meeting point depend on the ship and port call.

Make one card you can read at a glance

Fill this with confirmed information for your own call. Label the date and last update, and make the text large enough to read outdoors.

Save together What the card must identify
Ship and date Ocean ship name, Halong arrival date and booking reference.
Three deadlines All aboard; earlier terminal or tender-landing return target; latest departure from the final sightseeing stop. Label each as ship time or local time.
Return location Full port or tender-landing name, confirmed Vietnamese name where available, entrance, address and labelled map pin.
Pickup Exact landmark, guide name and sign, meeting window, and agreed action if clearance or contact is delayed.
People to contact Guide, driver and operator numbers with country codes; ship or local port-agent contact supplied onboard; vehicle plate or identifier when assigned.
Changed plans The optional stop to remove, the direct-return trigger and the contact who will confirm a change.

Photograph the current ship notice as supporting evidence, but type the deadlines clearly. Phones can change time zones automatically. All aboard means being aboard, not arriving at the public terminal; use the Halong return-time guide to keep the three deadlines separate. Label an alarm with the action, such as “Leave Hanoi,” rather than just “ship.”

Save places precisely enough for another person to find them

“Halong port” is too broad. Use the location announced for your call, following the guide to Halong cruise docking locations. If the ship changes terminal or landing, replace the old pin. The public vehicle entrance may still be some distance from the gangway.

Save the final pickup instruction with a landmark photograph showing whether you should wait inside or outside. A lobby, flagpole and numbered counter are different meeting points; a guide’s profile photo alone does not tell you where to stand.

For a tender call, add the ticket or queue procedure, return boarding point, last-tender instruction and any earlier reporting time. The Halong tender guide explains this extra stage. Save changes announced aboard before joining the queue.

If joining a sightseeing boat, record its name, pier, guide contact and reboarding point separately from the ocean ship. Keep any assigned cabin or ticket details with that boat’s booking. At a cave or island, the ocean ship’s name will not identify the local vessel you need to rejoin.

Keep the booking and shortened route on the device

Download the final confirmation or save readable screenshots of its useful pages: party, date, pickup, inclusions, equipment arrangements and relevant late-arrival or cancellation instructions. A visible email subject or cloud-file title does not prove the attachment is stored locally.

Keep three route choices in plain words: the preferred outing, the version with an optional stop removed, and direct return. Beside each, record the agreed trigger—late release, the departure deadline, a closure or a passenger’s need to stop. Use the plan agreed for this call, not a generic checklist.

Open the correct WhatsApp conversation while connected and send any agreed check-in. Save the number outside the chat too. An offline copy lets you read an instruction; it cannot send a new message without a connection.

Know what a downloaded map can do

Download the area covering the port, planned stops and return corridor while online, and check that the download completed. For Hanoi or Ninh Binh, a small Halong map will not cover the full journey. Save labelled screenshots of the meeting points as a separate reference.

Google Maps does not provide offline walking, cycling or public-transport directions. Its offline driving guidance requires the whole route to lie inside the downloaded area, and lacks live traffic and alternative routes. Do not follow a driving route on foot because the walking option is unavailable.

Use the map to recognize streets and explain your position, not to override port staff, barriers or the agreed driver route. Check downloaded maps for expiry before travelling. A saved map cannot confirm that a gate is open or replace arranged return transport.

Test with both mobile data and Wi-Fi disconnected

Airplane mode alone is not proof of being offline: Wi-Fi can operate while it is enabled. Before the test, check that the phone has no cellular-data or Wi-Fi connection. Then:

  1. Open the deadline card and zoom the meeting-point photograph.
  2. Open the actual booking attachment and every essential saved page.
  3. Open the downloaded map and find the port and planned stops.
  4. Check that saved assistance or medical instructions are readable.
  5. Restore your intended connection and confirm the latest messages before leaving.

If a file asks to download or sign in, resolve that while connected and repeat the test. Remove or clearly label old screenshots with another date, port or deadline.

Make the plan work if the phone itself fails

Give each independently moving adult a copy of the core card, and carry a readable paper version in a rain-resistant sleeve. For children or guests needing assistance, include a contact card and name the responsible companion. Agree one reunion landmark using the companion-reunion plan.

Save only the document and medical copies you need, behind the device lock rather than on an exposed screen or the front of the card. Keep unnecessary payment details out of the pack. Carry original documents when the ship requires them; photographs do not replace that requirement.

Save device-specific transport needs and the passenger’s established medical instructions where relevant. Keep the emergency contacts and hospital guide available; an emergency may require local care rather than a return to the ship.

Start with a charged phone, permitted power bank and correct cable, and protect them from rain and spray. Keep a companion copy and paper card independent of that device. If it goes missing, follow the lost-phone plan rather than searching alone through every previous stop.

Send Halong Shore Excursion your Ship + Arrival Date and any changed onboard instructions. Refresh the card at the actual meeting time if a delay changes the outing: the saved plan needs to match the day you are having.
