An internal vehicle may connect the international cruise berth with the terminal or Main Lobby area at Halong International Cruise Port. Availability, passenger eligibility and the route must be confirmed for your ship and date. Do not assume a fixed timetable, continuous service or space for a mobility device.
Official port and provincial reporting describes electric vehicles operating in the port. That establishes their use, not a guaranteed shuttle for every passenger. Halong Shore Excursion needs your confirmed boarding point, destination and return arrangement to plan the guide’s meeting and usable excursion time.
First identify which “shuttle” is being announced
| Transport | What it connects | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Internal port vehicle | Parts of the controlled port and terminal route, on land. | Independent-passenger eligibility and exact stops. |
| Tender boat | An anchored ocean ship and a landing, by water. | Landing, boarding instructions and last tender. |
| Cruise-line city shuttle | The port and a city stop under the line’s arrangement. | Destination, eligibility and last return. |
| Excursion car, van or coach | The agreed tour pickup and itinerary. | Where the guide stands and where the vehicle waits. |
| Local sightseeing-boat transfer | A meeting area and a bay day boat or its berth. | Whether included and which boat departure it serves. |
Repeat the destination when asking staff: “Main Lobby,” “public exit,” “city stop” or “back to the ship.” Seeing passengers from your ship board a vehicle does not establish that it serves your meeting point.
Confirm one complete operation before arrival
Ask Guest Services about the expected berth or tender arrangement, then record:
- Whether an internal vehicle is planned and independent guests may use it.
- The assigned gangway, boarding point and drop-off.
- Whether loading follows a timetable, rotation or staff direction.
- Any required ship card, ticket, payment or excursion identification.
- Group and equipment arrangements, including assistance.
- The return boarding point, operation and method for announcing changes.
Recheck after arrival or any berth change. Keep the answer with your booking and tell Halong Shore Excursion if it changes. A pre-arrival plan is not permission to use a closed route or a vehicle reserved for another group.
Follow the passenger route to the guide, then the tour vehicle
From the assigned gangway, follow signs, barriers and uniformed ship or port staff. Confirm the vehicle’s destination before joining its queue. Show your saved “Main Lobby” meeting instruction if language is a concern.
An internal vehicle may stop inside or beside the terminal while your guide waits at a public landmark and the tour vehicle uses another permitted pickup area. Save both points. The Halong shore-excursion pickup guide separates meeting the guide from boarding the car.
An internal vehicle reaching the berth does not give an independent guide or car the same access. Read whether a guide can meet beside the ship in Halong; do not wait at the gangway unless that arrangement is confirmed and permitted.
Give stage-based updates: still aboard, at the gangway, waiting for internal transport, inside the terminal or at the public landmark. The Halong passenger-exit guide explains why “off the ship” does not mean ready to drive away.
Allow for queues and keep the group coordinated
Count passenger release, walking to the stop, queueing, loading, the ride, unloading, the final walk and a group check. The ride alone is not the transfer time. The Halong disembarkation-time guide separates scheduled arrival from meeting-ready time.
Use one lead contact: “We are waiting for the Main Lobby vehicle; six passengers are together,” with your actual number. Avoid guessed five-minute estimates. A private pickup can move by agreement, but the lost time may require a shorter itinerary.
Tell staff about assistance needs before loading so the passenger, companion and equipment stay together where possible. If staff split the party between vehicles, the first group should wait at the confirmed drop-off. Reunite and count people, devices and bags before leaving with the guide.
If vehicles use different stops, ask staff where to reunite; do not backtrack into the controlled route without permission. Use the Halong separated-companion plan if communication fails.
Check equipment and an authorised alternative
For a wheelchair, scooter, walker or stroller, provide open and folded dimensions, weight, battery details where relevant, and the passenger’s ability to transfer. Confirm boarding steps, door width, secure storage and who can safely handle the device.
Do not assume staff can lift a passenger or heavy powered scooter. Do not transport someone on a rollator seat unless that exact device is designed and approved for it. The Halong walker and rollator guide covers the handover.
If no suitable vehicle operates, ask staff whether a designated walking route is permitted. Never improvise through vehicle lanes or barriers. If the passenger cannot manage the authorised alternative, contact ship assistance and Halong Shore Excursion before leaving the ship when possible; reconsider the outing rather than arrive at a missing handover.
Reset the plan if the landing changes
A tender landing may bypass the normal Main Lobby route. Confirm tickets, the actual landing, guide meeting and last-tender return using the Halong tender guide.
A changed berth can also change the land connection. Stop following the old pickup pin, obtain a revised public-side meeting and allow the guide time to reposition. The Halong berth-change plan covers rebuilding the itinerary and return.
Protect the complete return to the ship
Confirm return service separately; the morning operation does not establish its final run. Know where to board and which staff to approach if no vehicle appears.
The port arrival target must leave time for unloading, waiting, loading, internal travel, security and the gangway. Reaching the Main Lobby at all aboard is too late. If the vehicle is delayed, alert identifiable port staff, show the ship name and deadline, and update the guide through the original contact. Do not walk through restricted traffic areas to recover time.
Halong Shore Excursion uses Ship + Arrival Date → excursion-fit to connect the day’s permitted port route, passenger needs, exact meeting and protected return. Keep the internal connection inside that time allowance.
