Give the driver your ship name and arrival date, the confirmed passenger entry or tender landing, a verified map pin and the earlier time you must reach that point. Keep the ship’s all-aboard or last-tender deadline separately as the final limit. Do not say only “Halong port,” “cruise terminal” or “back to the ship.” Halong has international and domestic passenger-vessel locations that are not interchangeable.
The destination must describe where passengers can re-enter, not where the ship appears offshore or where a Halong Bay day boat finishes.
Use the full official place name
For a ship alongside at Ha Long International Cruise Port, use the current passenger entry confirmed by the ship and guide. The official Vietnamese place name is Cảng tàu khách Quốc tế Hạ Long.
Do not assume every entrance, quay or vehicle gate is open to passengers. Ask Halong Shore Excursion for the public return point and map pin for your ship and date.
“Halong Bay” is a destination, not a return address
Halong Bay covers the sightseeing area. A driver searching that name may choose an attraction, marina or domestic boat terminal rather than the ocean-cruise passenger entry.
Show the exact place in writing before the vehicle moves. Confirm it verbally with the guide and driver, then keep the map open offline.
Tuan Chau is not your ocean ship unless confirmed
Official information identifies both Ha Long International Passenger Port and Tuan Chau International Passenger Port as day-boat departure locations. If your sightseeing vessel finishes at Tuan Chau and your ocean ship’s confirmed return point is elsewhere, include the separate ground transfer. A day-boat marina and the current ocean-ship passenger return point must be checked independently.
Use the Halong Cruise Port–Tuan Chau transfer guide and include the return drive in the excursion timeline.
What to show the driver
Keep one return card or phone note containing:
- ocean cruise ship name;
- Halong arrival date;
- full current port or landing name;
- passenger-entry landmark and map pin;
- ship all-aboard or last-tender time;
- Halong Shore Excursion guide and operations contact;
- ship port-agent or emergency contact from the current daily programme;
- party count and any passenger needing assistance.
Do not give the driver only a photograph of the ocean ship. Several ships may call on the same date and a tendered vessel may be offshore.
Confirm the return before leaving the morning meeting
At pickup, ask the guide to show where the vehicle is expected to return. This catches an old pin or booking error before the group travels far.
If the outward meeting used a different gate from the expected return, write both locations separately. Do not assume the driver remembers a passenger path used many hours earlier.
The correct point can change during the port call
The ship or port may change berth, gangway or tender landing for operational reasons. The latest official ship instruction controls. Send that update to Halong Shore Excursion and ask for one revised return pin.
Use the Halong berth-and-landing change guide. Delete or label the old pin so it cannot be selected accidentally.
Tendered ships require a shore landing, not the ship’s position
A map marker for the anchored ocean ship is not a road destination. The driver must take you to the current tender landing and passenger-control point. From there, the cruise line controls the boat back to the ship.
Record the last-tender instruction separately from scheduled departure. Read whether your Halong call is docked or tendered before setting the return.
Do not trust an old map result by name alone
Search results, saved places and driver apps may use similar English names or old entrances. Match the pin with the current ship or operator instruction and a visible landmark. Ask the driver to repeat the selected destination.
If the guide sends a live location, confirm that it is the passenger entry rather than the guide’s temporary position, vehicle parking area or domestic harbour.
What if the driver does not speak your language?
Use the written Vietnamese official place name, map pin, ship name and time. Ask the guide or Halong Shore Excursion operations contact to speak with the driver before the group separates.
Do not rely on a machine translation of “port” without the place name. Keep the phone volume available for an operator call and preserve enough battery for the return.
What if the ride-hailing app chooses another gate?
Compare the app destination with the verified passenger-entry pin before confirming the ride. Message the driver the ship name and exact landmark. Do not wait at a vehicle-only gate or move into a restricted quay.
If pickup or return cannot be matched, contact Halong Shore Excursion and stay at the authorised public point. A cheaper or faster app estimate does not justify an uncertain gate.
Limited mobility needs the correct drop-off function
The nearest map pin may still require stairs, a long walk or a surface the passenger cannot manage. Ask where an authorised vehicle can unload and what assistance is available from that point.
Tell the operator the mobility-aid type, dimensions and passenger’s walking or standing limit. Use the Halong port wheelchair-access guide to separate public infrastructure from the day’s actual route.
Families should keep the return card with two adults
Save the destination and contacts on two phones. Give one adult responsibility for children and another for the driver, documents and bags. Do not put every cruise card or the only return address in a backpack left in the vehicle.
Count the party before leaving each stop and again before the vehicle leaves the final attraction.
What if the driver appears to be going to the wrong place?
Tell the guide or driver immediately and show the verified pin. Contact Halong Shore Excursion through the known booking channel. State your current location, direction, vehicle and remaining time.
Do not wait until the vehicle stops at another harbour. The operator should confirm one corrected route and remove optional stops if needed.
What if you arrive at the wrong port?
Stay at an authorised public area and contact Halong Shore Excursion and the ship’s port agent. Send the exact location, passenger count, vehicle details and current deadline. Follow the confirmed route; do not enter a restricted jetty or hire an unidentified boat.
The Halong port-agent guide explains when the ocean ship’s shore representative must be involved.
The driver needs the operator’s earlier target
Do not tell the driver only the ship’s all-aboard time. Give the earlier Halong Shore Excursion return target that includes passenger entry, security and any tender. This prevents the hard boundary from being treated as road-arrival time.
Use the Halong return-time guide to build that target.
Driver return card
Fill in this message after confirming the entrance and earlier arrival target. Save the map pin beside it.
Please take us to [full port or tender-landing name], at [confirmed passenger entrance], for [ship name]. We must reach that point by [date and time, Vietnam local time]. Please call [guide or operator number] if the entrance is unclear.
Vietnamese version to show the driver:
Xin đưa chúng tôi đến [tên cảng hoặc bến tender đã xác nhận], tại [lối vào dành cho hành khách], để trở lại tàu [tên tàu]. Chúng tôi cần có mặt tại điểm này trước [ngày và giờ, giờ Việt Nam]. Nếu chưa rõ lối vào, xin gọi [số hướng dẫn viên hoặc đơn vị tổ chức].
Keep the ship’s all-aboard or last-tender instruction and emergency port contact in the same note. The time shown to the driver as the arrival target must leave enough time to get from the drop-off back aboard.
Make the return destination passenger-specific, ship-specific and date-specific. Halong Shore Excursion’s decision sequence is Ship + Arrival Date → current berth or tender landing → exact passenger entry → verified map pin → driver confirmation → earlier operator target → security or tender → ocean ship. “Halong port” is not enough information for that chain.
